Coming To A Close

Everything is coming to a close for now! Turkey season ended and high school is officially over in 3 DAYS! WOW!

So i did end up getting my first turkey! Let’s just say it was awesome! As i was sitting in my blind waiting for something to walk out, i glanced over and saw a tom walking towards my decoy! My heart started pounding and my whole body was shaking! I had this heavy twelve gage shotgun in my hand trying to be steady so i could get a good shot. Michael let me use his back as a gun rest because i was so nervous. I aimed at the neck, and pulled the trigger and all i heard was a “click”. The gun didn’t go off. I turned to Michael not knowing what to really do and he said we would have to unload and then reload the gun. For anyone who doesn’t know, turkey have really good eye sight so even the littlest movement, they will see. Not really knowing how i was going to do this without scaring off the turkey i quietly got the gun reloaded. I put the gun back up to shoot, aimed it right on his neck and pulled the trigger. Lifting myself off the ground, after being blown over by the twelve gauge, i looked up and there he was laying on the ground! I had killed my first turkey! It weighed in at eighteen pounds with a ten and a half inch beard and almost one inch spurs. I say not bad for my first turkey!

As far as this whole high school thing, let’s just say I’m so ready! Yes, i have heard everyone tell me, your going to miss high school so much and it doesn’t get any easier then high school and your life’s going to change, but I think I’m ready to take on these challenges! You can’t stay here forever, nor would i want to! But as far as college goes, I’m going to attend Drury University and right now I’m planning to major in their Pre-Veterinary program! I’m super excited!

Well i guess this is the end. No more blogs for me and no more hunting stories for you! I know your going to miss me Coach, especially asking to leave everyday in 6th block, but at least you won’t have to deal with my procrastination anymore! :)

Turkey Season!

Next week is the beginning of turkey season and i am so excited! I have my blind set up and i am waiting for opening day. This will be my first time turkey hunting and i cant wait to try to shoot one! Michael’s cousin, who is in third grade, just killed a 21 pound turkey, with a nine and half inch beard and an inch and an eighth spurs!!!!!! It was so exciting and it made me even more excited to get to go!  Then Mrs. Davenport showed me her little girls big 23 pounder and I’m beginning to get impatient! I have been practicing shooting and I’m going out this weekend to practice a little more just so i can be ready! :) I will be letting you know how it goes!!!!!

My New Puppy!

My entire life i have wanted a dog of my very own. My boyfriends cousins had puppies that they were giving away to whoever wanted them. My parents wont let me have a dog at my house and no one else in my family wanted one. I begged my parents to let me have the dog but they kept saying no.

Michael’s uncle knows i love dogs and knew i had been calling my parents and begging them to let me have one. As i was leaving their house that night he told me i could have the puppy of my choice, name her, take care of her, and call her my own. I couldn’t believe it! I was so happy!

She’s a mix between a Blue Healer and a Miniture Alaskan Eskimo. She has a white body with black spots and little brown feet, with a face that could make anyone love her. She’s so adorable and has the best personality ever! She’s not too hyper but like to play around and love you!

She was one of the best presents i have ever received!

A Pointless Day!

So all week the weather men have been telling us that we were supposed to get anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow and it was going to be this HUGE storm. Everyone was expecting no school for today, even the teachers. Somehow I didn’t believe 12 inches of snow would be possible for us, and i was exactly right. I wake up Friday morning to green grass and hardly any snow. Of course school is in session, but everyone else around us is out. A typical thing for Springfield Public Schools.

Now I’m sitting here writing this at school and we get the announcement that school is being released early. WOW was it really that important for me to get up at 6:30 and come to school for a pointless day of nothing. I really think it would have just been easier to give us one snow day, but then again I’m a senior and i don’t have to make them up! I would be fine having another ice storm and missing a week of school! :)

The closest thing to a son my dad has!

So my dad has hunted almost his entire life, and so has all the other guys in my family, but i’m the only girl. Having only two daughters, he doesn’t get that “father-son” relationship that every dad wants.

It all started with my boyfriend, michael mcshane:). He’s in love with hunting and always wanted me to go. I thought i would give it a try because honestly it couldn’t be that bad. Well…it really wasn’t that bad because now i love it! I hunt every weekend!

My first experience of shooting a deer, was a spike buck, which isn’t very big. It was ten yards away from me and i hit it. It was dark outside when we were trying to find it and we never did. :(

My second experience of shooting a deer was a nice 8 pointer. My heart was pounding out of my chest and i was shaking so much i couldn’t hold my bow still. I only had three arrows, which was my first mistake and it was almost dark. I pulled back to shoot it and missed. He didn’t even move. I pulled back for a second time and missed again. He flinched a tiny bit. I pulled back a third time, knowing it was my last arrow and MISSED A THIRD TIME! He didn’t even run. Sitting in depression, i looked at the 8 point buck in front of me that i just missed three times and cried. I called my dad and told him to come get me out of the stand.

So now, I’m still waiting to kill my first deer! I know eventually I’m going to get one! But one of the best benefits about all of this is every time my dad is mad at me i say “Dad just remember I’m the closest thing to a son you have!” And for some reason, after saying that everything is better! ;)

FIRST YEAR OF HTV!

So last year it was all about the layouts for the book, the pictures, the stories and crazy deadlines every other week… or in other words being a yearbook editor. Yeah it was fun and definitely a good experience, but this year it was time for a change…

HTV!!! I am now officially considered an HTVer aka one of the best classes in our school. It was definitely a little intimidating at first, but finishing my first story on time and getting a “better than i thought it would be” from coach made me feel a lot better. I only got called a “puke” maybe ten times and got told “you suck!” a couple times, so i think I’m headed down the right track! One thing i do know though is that after graduation i will probably have had my fair share of broadcast and journalism!
